Washington had followed reportsof the fighting in the south during 1780 and 1781. Washington quickly changed his plans. He would advance on the british at yorktown rather then New York City. He wanted clinton to think the patriots still planned to attack New York. This he hoped would keep clinton from sending aid to cornwallis.

The british reached yorktown but they were confused,and the 14,000 american and french troops caught the 7,500 british and hessien troops in yorktown.While de grasse s fleet keept cornwallis from escapeing by sea.Clinton and the rest of the british army waited in new york,and they couldnt help cornwallis.

The new nation had it's borders expanded to the south they got Florida the west they got Mississippi river and to the north they got Canada and the united states could fish off the Canadian coast .

The soliders planed to disband in NY .enraged by congress refusing to pay their pension and other pay . The officers wrote a letter to Congress stating. That they will not disband until demands are met. General Washington pursuaded congress to meet the demands in fear on a revolution . His bravery and determination ended a revolution in the new nation .
